چکیده

The paper concerns time-efficient k-shot broadcasting in undirected radio networks. In a k-shot broadcasting algorithm, each node in the network is allowed to transmit at most k times. Both known and unknown topology models are considered. For the known topology model, the problem has been studied before by Ga̧sieniec et al. [14], who established an upper bound of D + O(kn1/(k−2) log n) and a lower bound of D + Ω((n − D)) on the length of k-shot broadcasting schedules for n-node graphs of diameter D. We improve both the upper and the lower bound, providing a randomized algorithm for constructing a k-shot broadcasting schedule of length D+O(kn log n) on undirected graphs, and a lower bound of D + Ω(k · (n − D)), which almost closes the gap between these bounds. For the unknown topology model, we provide the first k-shot broadcasting algorithm. Assuming that each node knows only the network size n (or a linear upper bound on it), our randomized k-shot broadcasting algorithm completes broadcasting in O((D + min{D · k, log n}) · n1/(k−1) log n) rounds with high probability. Moreover, we present an Θ(log n)-shot broadcasting algorithm that completes broadcasting in at most O(D log n+ log n) rounds with high probability. This algorithm matches the broadcasting time of the algorithm of Bar-Yehuda et al. [3], which assumes no limitation on the maximum number of transmissions per node.

k-shot Broadcasting in Ad Hoc Radio Networks

We study distributed broadcasting protocols with few transmissions (‘shots’) in radio networks where the topology is unknown. In particular, we examine the case in which a bound k is given and a node may transmit at most k times during the broadcasting protocol. Initially, we focus on oblivious algorithms for k-shot broadcasting, that is, algorithms where each node decides whether to transmit o...

An Efficient Hierarchical Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Transmission Scheme for Digital Video Broadcasting

Due to the increase of users the efficient usage of spectrum plays an important role in digital terrestrial television networks. In digital video broadcasting, local and global content are transmitted by single frequency network and multifrequency network respectively. Multifrequency network support transmission of global content and it consumes large spectrum. Similarly local content are well ...

Energy and Time Efficient Broadcasting in Known Topology Radio Networks

The paper considers broadcasting protocols in radio networks with known topology that are efficient in both time and energy. The radio network is modelled as an undirected graph G = (V,E) where |V | = n. It is assumed that during execution of the communication task every node in V is allowed to transmit at most once. Under this assumption it is shown that any radio broadcast protocol requires D...

An Efficient Routing Algorithm to Lifetime Expansion in Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes an efficient network architecture to improve energy consumption in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The proposed architecture uses a mobile data collector to a partitioned network. The mobile data collector moves to center of each logical partition after each decision period. The mobile data collector must declare its new location by packet broadcasting to all sensor node...
